4th International NAWDIC Workshop 2026
Summary
More than one year after the last campaign workshop, the NAWDIC community came together for another three-day meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany. Taking place eight months after the end of the observational campaign, the 4th International NAWDIC Workshop was a great forum to present the latest advances in data processing and analysis, exchange first scientific results, and foster new and existing collaborations. With again more than 50 on-site and many virtual participants, the workshop featured oral presentations and a poster session covering topics that ranged from airborne and ground-based instrumentation, atmospheric processes in the UTLS region, high-impact windstorms, moisture transport and re-cycling, to coordination with international partner campaigns. Further, dedicated breakout group discussions explored how to best exchange data products and analysis tools within the community and how to compare different model simulations of storm "Goretti" in January 2026. With this momentum, the community looks forward to building on these first results, further deepening its collaborations, and advancing new scientific achievements in the years ahead.
Invitation
We cordially invite you to participate in the 4th International NAWDIC Workshop taking place in Karlsruhe, Germany, and online from 12 to 14 October 2026. This workshop will be a great opportunity for the international NAWDIC community to come together in person to continue working on the exciting NAWDIC science, to make best use of the observational data set, and to explore additional synergies between the individual projects.
The meeting will start on Mon, 12 October at 13:00h and end on Wed, 14 October in the afternoon (around 15:00h). As last year’s workshop, it will again take place at Campus South of KIT located in the city center of Karlsruhe. Online participation will be possible. A detailed program will be published a few weeks before the workshop starts.
The workshop directly follows the 21st Cyclone Workshop, taking place in Bad Dürkheim (about 70 km from Karlsruhe) the week before.
Contributions
We invite submission of contributions on (preliminary) results and plans for NAWDIC-related science projects and observation platforms including:
- NAWDIC-HALO projects and instruments
- NAWDIC-DICHOTOMI (SAFIRE ATR42, TUBS Cessna 406)
- NAWDIC-KITcube and related ground-based observations
- EUROP and other radiosonde observations
- NURTURE
- AR Recon
- Modeling or data assimilation activities
- Other projects related to NAWDIC observations or case studies
The workshop will further serve to identify synergies and foster collaboration between different NAWDIC projects and to coordinate planned publications of data sets and scientific results.
