3rd International NAWDIC Workshop 2025
We cordially invite you to participate in the 3rd International NAWDIC Workshop taking place in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 15 to 17 September 2025. This workshop will be a great opportunity for the international NAWDIC community to come together in person, less than 6 months before the campaign begins. Besides discussing the exciting NAWDIC science, we aim to create observational synergies and fine-tune our coordination procedures to make best use of this unique and powerful measurement setup. For this reason, we explicitly encourage on-site participation.
The meeting will start on Mon, 15 September around noon and end on Wed, 17 September in the early afternoon. It will take place at Campus South of KIT, located in the city center of Karlsruhe and close by the beautiful Karlsruhe Palace. Online participation will be possible.
You are also welcome to join the NAWDIC-DICHOTOMI Kick-Off Meeting, taking place on Thu, 18 September at the same place.
Furthermore, we invite you to participate in the training session for the interactive visualization tool Met.3D, scheduled for Thu, 18 September from 09:00h to 12:00h (see invitation below).
The International NAWDIC Workshop 2025 is financially supported by HALO-SPP 1294.
Agenda
The following agenda is preliminary and subject to change. A detailed agenda will be publish a few weeks before the workshop starts. Presentation instructions will be communicated directly to the authors.
Lunch snacks and coffee breaks will be provided free of charge. Costs for dinner need to be covered by the participants.
Location: KIT Campus South, Building 50.41, Room 045/046

Met.3D Training Workshop
We plan to use our interactive 3-D visual analysis software "Met.3D" (https://met3d.readthedocs.io/) as one tool during NAWDIC for weather forecast exploration and flight planning. The software has evolved from more than a decade of work at the intersection of computer science and meteorology research and features interactive 2-D and 3-D visualization of weather forecast data to assist the flight planning process (and, after the campaign, to support research tasks to analyse the observed cases).
In this workshop, we would like to train you in using Met.3D and discuss your analysis/visualization requirements for the campaign. Please come yourself or send your colleagues/students! Topics include hands-on training and discussion of the required setup (hardware, forecast data, predefined forecast products).
If you haven't heard of Met.3D, have a look at this demo video (https://lecture2go.uni-hamburg.de/l2go/-/get/v/69875), at this article describing the use of Met.3D during the Cirrus-HL campaign (https://doi.org/10.1175/BAMS-D-22-0103.1) and at our evolving NRT-website that already features some batch-produced products of current ICON-EU forecasts (https://wx.hcds.uni-hamburg.de; the page will be extended for NAWDIC with products you need, and note that these visualizations are fully interactive in the Met.3D desktop software). If you have questions, contact Marc (marc.rautenhaus∂uni-hamburg.de).
Hope to see you at the workshop!
